Re: Verification Codes and all that

Both Avast (which I haven't used) and AVG (which I have) have a good
reputation and are entirely kosher. No antivirus is perfect, but these seem
to provide an adequate service, and are good enough for most people.

The XP firewall (especially the XP SP2 version) is also good enough for most
people. Anything more sophisticated will require configuration, and
mistakes can easily be made. Personally, I like the ZoneAlarm products
(there is a free version) from www.zonelabs.com.

You must also keep Windows up to date. visit update.microsoft.com (latest
version is here) once or twice a month, and turn on automatic updates to
make sure you get critical ones quickly.

Finally, use your common sense - porn, gambling and illegal file-sharing
sites are dangerous places (not that I suspect you'd use them Oscar!) and
"amazing offers" are usually traps. See www.walthamsoft.com/gn/security
(getting in need of an update though) for more details.
