no sound from Win 7

After the last batch of updates I have no sound.

tried Onboard card, Tried 2 other cards and now a USB sound card

All show the sound volume gfx moving up and down yet nothing comes out

Tried known working speakers. Headphones.

Seems that its sending 'some' signal but no sound playing

Works OK when I put it through my HDMI cable on the TV though.

Anyone got any tips on where to look ?
