I'd blame the game first, especially after an update. Have you tried
other similarly system intensive games?
In view of the other things tried/tested I'd be inclined to agree. Try dropping the resolution/effects maybe - see if that does it?
I think I may have solved it (touch wood). I closed everything in my system tray prior to running the game and so far it has not crashed again.
Well the game has not crashed once since I have been closing everything in the system tray before starting the game and so to prove to myself that I am not talking bollocks I left everything that loads at start-up in the system tray and played the game again... sure enough after about 20 minutes the game crashed out again. Concrete proof my solution works.
