Thanks for that although I am not sure I will bother as performance gains are minimal and my drive seems to be performing as well as can be expected on a sata 2 port.
Well I decided to try and change to AHCI mode and used this guide http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=313676 on how to under Windows 7.
Turns out it was easy to do and well worth the effort as my CrystalDiskMark score has gone from this;

So a significant performance improvement.
