Sounds like the standby circuit in the monitor has gone bad.
I've some TFTs in a lab here, which are all identical, but a growing
number no longer wake up with the PCs and need to be power-cycled.
My guess is they have leaky electrolytic capacitors in their PSUs.

Anyone know for some reason why my pc has to have the power switched
at the mains before the monitor comes on? When my PC is on, and I
close it down, the monitor doesn't come on but stays in the power down
mode. If I switch everything off by unplugging it from the wall, then
start it up the monitor comes on
