True?

Yes.

Modern mobos require PSU's with two plugs, unlike the original ATX PSU's
which only had one 20 pin connector. Can you mod old ATX PSUs to have the
required two connectors. (Got a FSP235-60GI, just wondering if it can be
modded, although possibly underpowered now).

You can get 20 to 24pin adapters, or you can just use the 20 pin
connector directly into the motherboard leaving 4 pins blank. The
extra pins are two more 12V lines and two more grounds.

As to underpowered... it depends. Current CPUs are lower power than
older ones (in general), mid-range gfx are lower power than older
ones, while top-end gfx want more power than older ones. All in
general, ask for specifics if you have them.

I'm running a E8400 (Core2Duo 3GHz), 4gig RAM, one HDD, one DVD
burner, ATI 3850/256meg and in normal idle it uses 70W, 150W at full
tilt. A similar but older 3GHz Pentium 4 machine with a 6600GT/128 in
would use about 150W idle, 220W full tilt IIRC.

However, the balance of 5V vs 12V has shifted, so an old PSU might
still not be powerful enough for a thirsty new build.

Ignoring LPT, USB, COM, VGA, DVI, PS2, IDE or SATA and connections like
that, which are sort of familiar and obvious, is it more or less true that
you only really need wiring for PC on/off (with LED indication) and wiring
for HDD activity indication (LED indication)? It seems to me that when I
build my PC (will need some attention to the wiring) -on the connection
issue - I'm sorted just arranging wiring for getting the PC on/ff and
getting HDD activity indication. I cannot think of any other feature that
I'd find useful.

There's only one little block of pins to do, you might as well put
them on. The little beeper is useful for boot fault finding; reset is
useful when Windows goes retarded; power, power LED, HDD LED covers
the rest.

Why is everything going black? I like grey or beige! :c) TIA.

Don't see much grey, but there's lots of silver. If you want beige
(ew) you can still get cases in it at the cheapest end of the market!
You'd likely not want to use the included PSU though.

a star through all the light pollution. A few of us checked some
