If you don't get any beeps (and you have a case speaker connectedHi, not sure if the speaker is correctly connected, I only think it
correctly), this is probably not a graphics card issue. Are you
using some fancy RAM? I've had trouble with that in Asus P45 boards.
is!
The ram is Corsair Dominator TWIN2x4096-8500C5DF G.
same problem with. Borrow another stick of less fancy DDR2 to test. Use
DDR2-800 or 667 because the boards often don't boot with 533 or 400.
Flashing the BIOS with the latest update did make the board work fine
with the Dominator sticks. Obviously you can't do this unless you have
it booting first.
Just checked the speaker connections and the red wire is on +5v andYeah, you can wire it backwards and it still works too.
the black wire is on Ground, if that is correct?
So... if the speaker is connected between +5v and ground, where does the
sound input come from?
Just checked in three Asus manuals and all indicate +5v and "speaker
out". Many cases have a "4 pin" connector then not much can go wrong,
but some have two individual connectors.
stil no post/beeps.
Do you think then its the ram now, at too high a voltage, ie nit needs
2.1v against others at 1.8v?
Thanks
That could be a problem - (effectively) unlimited 5v across the speaker
may have caused damage. You try a 1.5 battery across the speaker leads
to check it make a noise (use a couple of paperclips as pins!) :-)
The m/b manual and memory specs should identify if the memory voltage is
a problem.
I tend to keep a few old video cards for times like this - ISA, PCI and
AGP - though getting an integrated board and then adding a card is
simpler (if you don't want a cutting edge system).
