There are no beeps when the system powers up, ie fans sip, led's light up; all seems well excpet there is no signal to monitor so I don't know or can't see what is happening.

If you don't get any beeps (and you have a case speaker connected correctly), this is probably not a graphics card issue. Are you using some fancy RAM? I've had trouble with that in Asus P45 boards.

Just checked the speaker connections and the red wire is on +5v and the black wire is on Ground, ...
