Yes, cheers, John..trying to do that...but its like watching paint
dry...trying to download from Gigabyte...I'll keep trying though.
I was able to at least load and view the various files from the Gigabyte CD
its just the autorun won't work. I've managed to load quite a bit of stuff
individually from the CD onto the pc but still nogo on the
networking...if I
only knew what I was looking for I could try and load that bit from the
stacks of stuff on there.
In the meanwhile I'm currently trying to send a request for info to
Gigabyte
who ask for all sorts of info which I can provide..the one bit I can't find
where to look is they need the mobo Bios version..you wouldn't happen to
know where that would be revealed would you? Cheers.

Regarding getting the autorun to work, that's not an essential (in
fact, you'll be wanting to make sure it _can't_ possibly work in order
to block yet another security exploit). Once you've mounted the driver
CD in the drive (and allowed the drive to register it), Open the 'My
Computer' icon and press the F5 key to force a refresh. The CDROM icon
will change to that provided by the autorun.inf file and double clicking
on that icon should start the 'magic install' or whatever name they've
given to the front end menu that lists the various driver install
options.

Failing that, open the drive to view its contents and then open the
install.exe (or whatever .exe file looks most likely to be the menu
program - remember that you need to change the fileview options to allow
explorer to show such extensions beforehand). If you can't get the menu
program to run, you could always look for a subdirectory (folder) with
LAN in the name. or a name associated with the on-board LAN driver
chipset name, and look for a 'setup.exe' file to open.

Sometimes, the front end menu selection might just take you to a
readme, explaining how to initiate the windows hardware driver update
process with instructions as to which folder to point the wizard at. In
this case, you won't find a setup,exe file in that particular folder,
just a bunch of .inf and .sys files and so on.

The bios version number is usually shown near the top left of the POST
screen (just press the Pause/Break key to freeze the screen at this
point in the boot process - most bioses will honour the pause request at
this point, the exception being bioses used on PC Chips products) The
version number is usually associated with a date in the cockameemee
american format.

However, the bios version number isn't usually the critical factor in
choosing a driver download. More usual is the MoBo revision number and
this is usually printed somewhere on the board itself (this is
especially critical in the case of bios flash updates).
