A few more possibilities:
You can try limiting the amount
of space that IE grabs for its cache and also limit the size of the

Disabling Hibernation does away with the Hyberfil.sys file which can
save a chunk of hard disk space
Thanks Derek...
Cut IE cache down from 200 to 50Mb... and hibernate is off already (not
enough disk space)
50MB is around 6 times more than most folk would need. I find 8MB is
more than ample (it's not a disk space limit, but a data size total
limit - two different things- _very_ different in a FAT based FS using a
32KB block size)
Turn off system restore? Default is for 10% of disk space to be reserved
for this I believe.
It's actually a whopping great 12% (well a whopping great amount in
most typical sytems with 120GB and larger drives invested with a single
huge "All Your Eggs In One Basketcase One Size Fits All"(tm) partition
space). I try to tune this to circa 1GB (anything more and the whole
deal becomes rather flaky anyway).
BTW, I've started to see Vista afflicted notebooks coming into my
workshop over the past month or so (I think they're suffering heat
stress more so than in winXP (a bad enough festering pile of *** in
its own right) and I'm seeing some very peculiar keyboard/mouse/acpi
hardware failure issues.
The thing is; When I look to try and tune the system restore feature,
there's no obvious way to configure the percentage of disk space. I
suppose, when ICBA, I'll search the help like I had to do when trying to
figure out how to turn the screensaver off and change the default
shutdown option of 'sleep' to 'shutdown' when the start menu was set to
the more usable 'Classic view'.
I suppose I shouldn't complain, it is starting to increase my level of
business (but it looks like I'll be spending the extra money - tax
deductable, of course!- on "Anger Management" therapy).
