An impossibly sour view of the world, at least from where I'm standing. I certainly don't know everything, and have no qualms in asking for help and advice when appropriate. Similarly, as I browse this and other groups (learning all the time) I take a pleasure in sharing the answers I do have, and often spend time pinning down a solution when I only have an outline. I don't charge customers for time hunting for an answer to a customer's problem but I do charge for applying the fix. Most of my customers (can't think of one exception, as it happens) would be hopelessly out of their depth in a group like this - they wouldn't have the language to express their problem or understand the solutions (often conflicting). People like me and the OP add value by diagnosing, researching, interpreting and applying. This is a group in which technical folk freely (and often generously) help each other just for the satisfaction of contributing to a community. What are you doing here?

Paul P AKA the Tiscali Idiot is a lone troll throwing stones in the pond to watch the ripples. His latest tack (which is failing thankfully) is based on replicating the futile noisy efforts of someone else who started a war about professionals using some groups for advice, and then was slapped down when reminded how many valid points were brought back to the group by working professionals to the benefit of all!

The Tiscali Idiot claims to be a professional. In fact he claims a lot of things. Does he actually do a lot of things?

No. :-|

I should have recognised this as trolling - although it doesn't hurt to repeat a positive outlook. Trolls can occasionally be funny: I stumbled on a newsgroup (years ago) which was dedicated to all things charmingly feline. Some wag had posted a carefully (and quite gently) argued line that cats were in fact verminous and should be systematically wiped out. The responses went on for weeks, and involved death threats...

Happily, this remains a constructive and generous group, although the (nameless) one just above it in my subscription list is extraordinarily bad-tempered and full of point-scoring: HTML red in tooth and claw...
