There's another argument to shutdown (-f) which forces running applications to terminate. Be careful, though: a customer recently left the explorer context menu unavailable when he insisted on killing True Image from Task Manager during a run. Haven't had a chance to fix this yet! Might be worth using the -t option too, to allow a good delay after the end of the run.
