I've already noticed that Dell are now offering some of their PCs with
a Vista licence but with XP installed (and Vista media so that you can
downgrade later).

Only some of the more upmarket Vista licences allow this use of XP on a
Vista licence so it's not a cheap solution, but XP will not die so
easily.
