I've ordered an Optiarc AD-7203S (SATA DVD writer) to replace the existing
old IDE DVDROM.

I'm wondering which would be the best way to connect it to ga-p35-ds3p.
This mobo has 6 SATA on the intel ICH9R as well as 2 SATA and an IDE on the
JMicron controller.

I already have my 2 sata hdd's on the ICH9R in AHCI mode.

Ideally I'd like to connect the burner to the ICH9R too and disable the
JMicron completely in BIOS as I will no longer have any IDE requirements and
will have plenty of SATA ports.

Or do I run the burner in IDE compatability mode on one of the JMicron SATA
port? (I have heard there are possible issues with DVD drives in AHCI
mode.)

Any advice appreciated.

I forgot to add this is running on windows xp pro sp2 and maybe OSX86
sometime soon.

Personally I would connect the drive to the ICH9R and not the Jmicron. I had to do this myself as my drive cloning / imaging software failed to write to an ide dvd drive. Same thing happens with an MSI board that uses a Marvell controller for ide.
