The registry is buggered then. You have the option of reinstalling or
running a registry fixer in safe mode. There are many, but Registry
Mechanic has been good to me.
When you get the machine up and running again, install Lars Hederer's
ERUNT - it's the Win2k equivalent of XP's "restore points" and has got
me out of the *** a number of times:
