About a year ago I built a box with the following:
Asrock K7S41
Athlon XP 3200
2x1MB PC3200
Nvidia 6600GT
The MB and memory were new, all other parts were used, but separately
tested.
XP and other software installed without problems. The machine was
perfectly
stable. The same CD's for all the SW has been used on other machines
without a problem.
However, there is an irritating intermittent screen flicker. It is most
noticeable when using Netobjects Fusion; the icons at the top of the
screen
blink two or three times every 30 seconds or so. It happens when running
Photoshop Elements 5, but less noticeably. When using Word, occasionally
the whole screen seems to flicker up and down by a pixel or two.
Here is what I have tried without success:
I uninstalled the Nvidia graphics driver, and tried with the VGA one.
I swapped the graphics card for another known working 6600GT.
I swapped the graphics card for a 5200GT.
I pulled both RAM chips, and tried with another MEMtested 1MB PC3200.
I reinstalled Fusion.
Because I had one available, I rebuilt the whole thing with a used Asus
A7N8X Deluxe rev 2. I did a complete reinstall. Still the flicker remains.
Although unrelated, I replaced the HD with a bigger one; I cloned using
Acronis True Image.
I have now tried replacing the PSU without success.
All I can think of to try is the CPU. I can pull an identical one from
another machine that is in use, but before I do, have I missed anything?

Remove prejudice to reply.
If you cloned the old system then you havent ruled out softwware/system
corruption!
Try a reinstall.
