Hi folks .... I'm a thickoe with computers .... problem is there are
no groups (with good active memberships) around these days to deal
with a query as basic as the one I pose below.
So .... I would be grateful if you could help me - either by directing
me to another more appropriate group .... or perhaps you may be able
to help me with my query.

RE :- ...........ACER ASPIRE T180 R01-B4 ..a PC World cheapo ....
VISTA BASIC..........AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual Core.
---
I bought the PC World recommended DDR2 PC2-5300 1GB RAM 240 PIN 667
DIMM (128 x 64) from PC world for £19.99
There are two orange slots and two purple RAM slots on MBoard.
I put the new 1GB one into the easy to get to purple slot .... so it
is next to the 0.5 GB, one in it's orange slot .... It went in and
pushed down ok (it can only go in one way due to the off-set slot in
the middle). The clips at either end of the slot clicked over ok into
the card cutouts to hold it.

[-------------0.5 GB original ram---------------] DIMM 3 ORANGE
[-------------1 GB new PC World ram--------] DIMM 2 PURPLE

PROBLEM ...
Comp does not recognise the new additional 1GB of PC World ram.
Neither SYSTEMS nor TASKMASTER nor BELARC ADVISOR .... they all still
say, as before, that there is only 447mb ram available.
QUESTIONS
(1) - I know that the slot colours signify something .... what ?
(2) - I still want to use the 0.5 ram card ... so which slot should
the new 1GB go in for it to be most effective .... or at least
recognised. Also ...now that there are two cards .... for the
best working setup does the 0.5 gb card now need to go in another slot
also ?
(3) - The two ram cards are not a matched pair .... does this fact
govern the choice of slots ?
(4) - As a final proof that the 1GB card runs ok on it's own ... I
will have to put the card in a slot and remove the 0.5 one ... which
slot should I put it in ?
Thanks mucho ...
Alec
