Customer with A8V-VM board asked me to upgrade mobo: I've basically taken
his PC apart and rebuilt with Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H mobo and 4x1GB
Crucial DDR2 800MHz RAM sticks, AMD 64x2 4800+ 2.5GHz CPU. I've got as far
as powering up and testing POST = OK. I'm not too sure about the following
scenario though: The board has ATI Radeon onboard graphics but I'm hoping
to run the PCIe nVidia t/c graphics card from his A8V-VM . - Is this wise
or does anyone forsee problems in doing so? Would I be better off just
sticking to the onboard graphics for now?
Don't see why you should have problems, usually a separate card will be
quicker than on board graphics (unless it's very low spec). I guess it
depends what the customer will use the box for.
Now you see Jeff, you read it exactly the same (incorrect) way that I did.
I wasn't trying to be rude or talk down to you (Dr.Hal0nf1r£$), but seeing
as you ask...
It's a very basic question that you asked, in fact that's why I and probably
Jeff too, although I don't presume to speak for him, have misinterpreted it.
Of course you can use an Nvidia add in vga card even though the onboard has
an ati chipset. In fact had you given the problem any thought what-so-ever
you'd have realised that when the nvidia card was in the other motherboard
it was in the same board as a VIA chipset onboard vga chipset.
To upset you even further I'd go as far to say that until you had acquired
such a basic degree of knowledge you shouldn't even be undertaking this
upgrade/repair/favour for a mate and especially not for money or as any sort
of business transaction.
I'm not suggesting that you should have intimate knowledge of PCs or their
workings to sell a PC as part of a business, look at PCW for heaven sake,
they've gotten away with it quite legally for years! I'd have serious
reservations about selling ones you'd built yourself though, especially when
Linux seems able to damage them!
