PCI SATA Controller Problem

Hi,
I got a PC which is around 4 Years old giving me a few problems. I an
nutshell the onboard SATA Controller keeps going 'blind'. By which I
mean, I install windows XP it reboots and like normal I get to install
it. Get to the desktop get a few of my applications going and then
when restart, there is no OS on the hard drive. Put the same hard
drive in another PC and it works and there is data on it. Anyway's
conclusion is the SATA controller on the motherboard is gone. So went
out and brought a PCI SATA Controller. It came in a box and
everything, but no drivers CD, although they are available from the
website and I can create a SATA Drivers Disk If I wanted to.
The Issue is this. When I hook up the hard drives to the PCI
controller, they are not seen at all by the BIOS. Getting Windows
installed on the hard drive is not a problem, but I wont be able to
boot from it, unless the BIOS can see it, right? I have looked in the
BIOS and there is no clear setting to change or anything.

Does anyone know of how I can get the BIOS to see the hard drive on
the PCI SATA controller.

Motherboard: P4V88+
PCI controller: VIA VT6421
RAM: 1GB Kingston
Hard Drive: Samsung 80GB

Hope someone can help, I am really pulling my hair out on this one.
