Re: Boot Selector problems

For five years I've used Partition Magic's Boot Manager on my existing
Win98 PC. It's been 100% and have never had any trouble with it.

Have just built a new PC and intended to put dual boot Win2000 and XP
on it. I cannot use the above-mentioned software as it's too old.

No XP at the moment, but installed two copies of 2000 and then tried
various Boot Managers. So far I haven't found one which works!

I need a system which hides the OS which is inactive. The Microsoft
auto OS selector doesn't hide the spare OS hence it's too vulnerable.

I've tried OSL2000, Paragon Boot Manager, Acronis OS Selector, and
GRUB.

The best I've had has been systems which work just once, then on
reboot I get the dreaded NTLDR not found message. Over the past two
weeks I have installed Win2000 approx 30 times!

Paragon BM appeared to work and switched between the two partitions,
but on inspection (I changed the desktop colour and partition size) I
discovered that it only ever booted the first partition. Interestingly
on going into their Partition Manager it reported that the other
partition was active, hence it appeared to work, but was lying !

OLS2000 simply booted me into the Microsoft selector.

I then decided to completely reformat the hard drive and start again.

Now I am unable to install any OS selector. They all come up with an
installation error. The MS selector still works, and I keep using
FIXMBR and FIXBOOT to reset everything.

Win 98SE was so simple.

Any ideas most welcome.

I use Bootitng, I use it to run multiple copies of Vista and Linux from the same disc. You can download a trial copy for free from Terabyte at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm

Just formatting you disc might solve your problem.
