No, but it could be hit by a flood, storm etc. And lots of people don't have anywhere.
Trouble with backup over ADSL is that traffic charges will soon get in your way.
Depends on your package though. My previous ISP had no upload limits, my current one has generous enough limits for me not to worry.
There is no such thing as 'unlimited' any more, despite what the marketing guys say. Given that 'du -s ~jim' just returned somewhere in the region of 35Gb, which is _WAY_ too much, backing that up over ADSL would be a slow process.
I use Mozy for online backup,with about 140 GB. True, the initial backup takes some time, but once that is done, the incremental backups are ok.
On and off I consider something along the OP's lins for locating at my parents house
