I know that XLR mics have a balanced input so the three pins are + -
and gnd. Very unlikely that a cheapo headset has such a set up
(could be wrong of course). I have a 'scope and can see *no* signal
from either pin of the mic jack socket to it's ground. So looks like
a duff mic.

Ever come across the pro-audio term "phantom power"?
