What do the experts here think about the optimum pagefile size and
location for my new XP Pro PC please. It has 4 GB RAM and two
(nominally)750 MB HDs, neither partitioned as yet. The default size
set is 2046 MB 'Total paging size for all drives' and is on C: (the
OS drive).

You will get lots of different views :-)

Yes - already looks that way ;-)

I have the OS on one drive then a main data drive and backup drive.
I set a fixed size pagefile (4096) on the backup drive just after it
was formatted - it is at the "front" of the drive and doesn't
fragment as it is fixed size. The drive it is on is only accessed in
overnight backups and if I get something wrong and have to retrieve
a backup.

So, in my case, should I increase its size to say 4096 MB and put it
on I: (which is currently used for nightly backups)?

Do not set a fixed size for page file Let windows manage it. Its done it
well ever since win 95
