While clearing the triple peaks of old papers from my desk over theLOL. I remember buying a 486 motherboard from a shop in London. They
weekend I came across a faxed quote from the late lamented dan
technology plc for P133 system, dating from October 1995.
I think I changed the spec a little between the quote and buying the
system, but I'm horrified to see that I was prepared to pay something
of the order of £4288.75 for PC. My latest (homebuilt) system cost less
than the VAT from that quote!
only had a display model left and it had 4MB of RAM in it. I remember
unpacking it and seeing that they'd forgotten to take the 4MB out and
being overjoyed that I'd got £160 of memory for nothing. £40 for 1MB of
RAM...those were the days.
