I have a Belkin F5D8230-4 wireless router, and a speedtouch 586 broadband
modem. This all works very nicely nearly all the time. However, every so
often, the connection between the modem and the router gets partially
broken. It continues to pass through NG information and some games seem
to work, but not web browser stuff. Also, I can log into the wireless
router, but not the modem. This sometimes happens twice a day, and
sometimes 2 weeks can go by without a problem. It is easy to fix simply
by telling the wireless router to restart itself.
Router firmware bug. You could try updating the firmware, but it may leave
you with a dead router and Belkin tend to stop updating things once they
mostly work.
It has been suggested that I try a third party firmware. Sort of last
resort.
If it's losing the DNS (eg you can ping IPs but not names don't resolve),
you could try turning off the DNS passthrough/cache and access the DNS
servers directly.
I can't see the modem, which I think means that it's not the DNS. Have I
understood that correctly? (To access the modem, I have to use its ip
address, not a name.)
