Re: w2k to XP upgrade worked except for usb glitch

Just upgraded a PC from w2k to xp and everything worked (!) fine
except for this glitch.
On booting I get a "found new hardware" series of windows for a device
VID-04E6-... which appears to be a usb card reader device. This
message appears at reboot whether I select "don't ask again" or not.
However, when this device was on the w2k incarnation of same PC it was
seen ok - and afai remember didn't need a device driver. (I think
that's right anyway). Here's the strange thing though, if, after
booting and logging in, I unplug that card reader, XP find's it
straight away, & sees the card plugged into it just fine.

I can use the PC like this - but just wonder if it can be put right at
boot time?
Thanks

Some clues can got from Google by putting the VID stuff in the search
box surrounded in quotes.
