If you do have a proper XP CD it may just be easier to re-install while you have no apps/data on the new PC. You can avoid putting all the crud on that PC suppliers seem to think is essential
I use acronis products for "this kind of thing". Not perfect but so
far has proved reliable and very fast - however it does cost.

I use their True vector and Disc Director and image to a removable
HDrive. You can (and should) make a bootable CD of these items. Easy
to do from the menus.
It is called Maxblaster, and only works if there is a Seagate/Maxtor drive plugged in somewhere (although it does not have to be source/destination drive)
