The PS3 isn't exactly quiet either! though mine is only about as loud as the SkyHD box - unless it's working hard ;)

I use a PS3 (and a NAS box with DLNA), but only because I've got one - it does the job and the 1080p upscaling is surprisingly good, but it does have limitations that a dedicated media streamer shouldn't have.

It's quite fussy about file formats too, though that has improved a little with the latest firmware.
