I'd just much rather copy the files to a remote PC or Internet filestore.
You can also keep historic versions that way. And if it completely cr&ps
out, you just walk to the remote PC and work there instead. You can try
that once a week just to make sure it really is possible.
You have me interested here. What software do you recommend that will:
a) copy to a remote PC on the LAN say every 5 minutes, and
b) keep multiple copies?
Obviously, this needs to work very much in the background and not interfere
with ongoing work. I assume that you would need to do a restore at the
receiving PC's end of things, or could you just replicate the file structure
there and keep things synchronised? (If so, how do you keep multiple
versions?)
Second Copy, for instance, although I personally wouldn't run that every five minutes (I can lose an hour's work, no problem), and it will not always succeed in copying open files.
It will keep as many old (replaced) versions as you have space for. Personally I also copy the old (archived) versions to 2 places. Has saved me from an 'oops, shouldn't have deleted that file last week' on several occasions (the delete is replicated on the remote machine, but an archived version of the deleted file is backed up in both places).
