I need to be able to play back high definition video that I have
recovered.

I have purchased a unit that reads and plays back all sorts of media,
HDMI included, but the problem lies with the monitor.

Ideally I'd like a monitor that could be plugged into the computer and
the "unit" simultaneously, and which wouldn't spontaneously combust were
a signal to be sent from both at the same time.

Firstly, can someone tell me if this is possible (would prefer a
montitor with proper HDMI interface for the HD playback) and can anyone
recommend a monitor - preferably 24" widescreen.

Thanks

Hi Duncan, I bought a Hyundai W240D a few weeks back and it has what you
want, it's also very gorgeous :)

There are three different models so you need to be careful you get the right
one if you go for it, there's the cheaper TN panel, the better PVA panel
(the one I bought) and the PVA panel with integral USB2 hub for a stupid
amount more.

All three have vga, dvi, hdmi and component inputs. Input selection is by a
button which scrolls through the different inputs.
