I am a bit obsessed with PSU fans at the moment, because I beleive
quiet PSU makers don't use high enough quality fans. ::not pleased::
To anyone who has changed a PSU fan:
How did you do it, and what problems did you encounter?
My first attempt at changing a PSU fan was on a 530W Hiper 120mm PSU.
I replaced the cheap tacky black fan with a lovely efficient Akasa
model.
Advantages:
It removed a boatload of noise and had my PSU running cool to the
touch.
Problems:
1) - I couldn't get the new 120mm in place properly; the problem was
the screws! It was impossible to screw them flush to the fan, because
the screw holes in the fan were not pre threaded. As a result there
were screws sticking half way out.
2) - Something (I did?) eventually caused my power supply to become
faulty by failing to dissipate static
electricity/ producing static.
3) - I had no way to check the operating temperature of the PSU to
make sure the new fan was doing a good job. (It seemed to be doing
well though.)
That's it.. please share any thoughts or suggestions you have!!
