Hi all,
I`ve got a Dell machine running Vista, and i`d like to do a clean install, without the stuff Dell install. I`ve got a Vista anytime upgrade DVD and the serial number on the PC itself - will this allow me to do a format and install?

At the same time, I`m looking at splitting my boot 500 gig drive into about 300 gig for Windows, 200 gig for Data (and yes, I do need that much space :-) ). Is there a decent freeware tool that will let me graphically move, resize, create etc partitions? i`d like to resize the current single partition, move the data onto a new partition, then format the drive and start again, pointing Vista towards the new partition to store the data. I will of course be backing the data up (actually in the process right now of doing this), but it`d save time if I can move the data across before reinstalling. I`ll also want to be able to resize the partitions as and when needed, if I`ve got that mix wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why does your OS need 300GB? Mine is on a 40GB drive by itself with
another 3 drives giving me 1.5TB for data.

My Vista DVD can create, expand and shrink partitions. Does the upgrade DVD
not have that functionality?

If not Google for Hirens Boot CD. You'll find all the tools you need on it.

Scratch space for torrents, installing lots of apps etc - 200 gig for the data in "My Documents" is enough for now and the foreseeable future. There is plenty of other data, but that is kept on different drives out the way. As I said I need the ability to change the sizes later on incase I find my needs change, but as it is both partitions will have plenty of space left on them for the foreseeable future. Just done a backup of all my data in my documents, and it comes to 65gig (although it will be doubling fairly soon).
