has happend, but I am going to do all the usual things before
considering a reinstall - which just to clarify is fine with an OEM
version of VISTA? I won't be changing any hardware at all, but I may
swap the HDDs around (same size, spec etc) and reinstall on a clean
drive (which it will be once I've backed up the data and reformatted
it).
Knew I should have gone for XP......duh!
Perfectly fine. Why would XP have made a difference?

I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.
Sorry - I thought I'd read somewhere that an OEM reinstall of Vista
was a bit of a pig. Perhaps not. Thanks for clarifying.
By the way, found it it wasn't Vista at all - it was ZoneAlarm Free.
Uninstalled it and PC working better than ever. Have had to turn on
the Vista Firewall, and need to work out how to stop outward
connections, but that's a Sunday job! Lots of reviews about the Vista
firewall being better than anything previous, but not that convinced
being a M$ product. I have tried another free one (Commando) and it
was awful with Vista. Anybody any experience of anything else?
