When I was on XP, I was able to turn off broadcasting my SSID name for my wireless router as a way of trying to hide my wireless network to the generalist snoopering person passing my front door, however, since using Vista, I have to leave my SSID name broadcasting on because if I don't, Vista doesn't/can't connect, even through the settings are all set up in the wireless network configeration on the PC and laptop. I thought it was just my PC at first, but when I also got a laptop with Vista pre-installed, it did the same.
You might want to post in microsoft.public.vista.general or similar ngs or even search google. Many Vista faults/limitations are quite well known - if that is indeed the case!
