Further to my "Black -screen" thread a few days ago, the mystery
continues. I don't know what else to try after doing this...
(PC1 is where the fault is. When a cpu intensive (eg complie C++
program under visual studio) task starts, screen goes totally black.
When task ends screen re-appears.
Asus mobo A7N, Nvidiea 8X AGP w2k os.
)
Try differnt AGP card - fault persists
Try remove all AGP, and install PCI Matrox millenium - fault persists
Try CRT in place of TFT display - fault persists
Try experimenting with agp settings in BIOS - fault persists
Try TFT monitor on PC2 - ca completely differnt machine NO faults - no
black screens all is fine.
So it doesn't look like a faulty TFT (Belinea) - cable or faulty AGP
cards or drivers (as the MAtrix card uses a differnt one).
Seems to be something on the motherboard (agree?)
Should I consider flashing a more recent MOBO BIOS? (not keen to do
that though)
tia
you checked your cpu temps in bios?
This is really odd as it seems something on the mobo is causing this.
I also ran memtest over night and that memory is fine.
Ran cpu benchmark test sandra - that "worked" apparently.
This is a weird one. Try installing the latest version of DirectX,
which will do nothing if your system is OK but should fix any
problems it finds. I'm thinking you may have a problem in the
layer between application and hardware. Did you get any advice
suggesting that you try another PSU? That might be worth a go, too.
I'd hang-on to that pci graphics card - very useful for testing this
kind of thing. :)
Cheers,
