USB Switchbox solutions, circuit diagram?

I have a 3 devices I want to use on 2 pcs - keyboard, mouse and joystick. I
dont need the monitor to change, and most kvm have only 2 usb or ps2 ports
anyway.
Price wise, it starts to get astronomical once we start talking usb kvms,
even a cheaper end £25 one is starting to get silly if i dont want the
monitor part. I used to make switchboxes years ago, albeit not for PC use,
but how hard can it be? Its only 5 lanes? So, a bit of multicore, some kind
of 500ma rated multipole switch and 9 screw on usb ports? However I see a
discussion in adverts recently that reminded me that without proper
connections, id get the bing bong sound of the usb when connecting on and
off and I dont know what id have to do to trick that, or what lane its
detecting a break on even.
If I could live with the bing bong I could get a usb hub and 'if' it works
with all my 3 components, I could run 2 cables, one from each PC and just
plug them in manually, or use one of the 8.99 single channel switch boxes
for printers but I dont know if thatll work, has anyone used one as a hub
switcher?
That seems to be the path of least resistance right now but for gaming id
prefer my mouse to be on its own usb channel, so making my own box with 4 or
6 cables from the pcs and 3 for my devices might be the only way im going to
get one.
Thoughts anyone please?
