About even chances, I'd say. Since Lou hasn't mentioned the model yet,
it's hard to tell.
I don't remember seeing what the processor speed is, but even
with a lot more memory (256 is only just enough for basic use in my
view) it may crawl even if you get XP onto it. I've just rebuilt a
600MHz laptop with Win2K when someone had "upgraded" it to XP - it just
wasn't useable.
That might be down to the upgrade process, though. I've got a Fujitsu
here with a Celeron 300MHz and 288meg RAM and a clean install of XP
runs pretty well on that. Win2k is quicker when running, but slower to
boot and the power saving is significantly worse, all unsurprisingly.
It's got a touchscreen which is unusable due to only having Win98
drivers (it acts like a giant trackpad under XP), but everything else
is supported off the CD.
