Just hooked up a belkin N1 router - works just fine - but I'm having
problems getting the wireless link to work. (The wired is fine).
I'm sure it's my lack of understanding not the kit here. I'm trying
to get WPA working. I setup the router for WPA no problems. But I
cannot see how to get the laptop side of it going. I enable WPA and
the laptop sees the wireless network - but it then asks for a passkey
which looks remarkably like it's asking for a WEP key. But I *have*
setup laptop things up to be WEP (afaik).
The laptop will detect what type of encryption the network is using.
When prompted for "network key" just type in your WPA password as you
typed it into the router.
Thanks Jon. Sorry to be so dumb here but do you mean the WPA
pass-phrase (as entered at the router)? Because I've done that and get
an error msg on the latop saying something like "enter a 40/128 bit
key" (or something like that). It just looks to me as if it's
expecting a WAP key not a WPA one.
ON THE ROUTER, you have encryption set to WPA and you've put in a
passphrase, right?
If that's the case and the laptop is still giving the same error
message, you need to update the drivers for the laptops Wifi adapter to
add WPA support.
If you've connected to that SSID name before on the laptop with WEP, it
might be worth completely deleting the connection in Windows Wireless
and re-detecting it.
