OP here - just to say, problem still happening even after cmos reset. I've
uploaded a screen shot here:

Nothing happens after that point in the image.
Is the mobo a gonner? It was a brand new one from dabs.com. I'm fresh out
of ideas - hope someone here can help me!
Thanks.
Pete

I've just finished building my new rig. It's based on a Giga-Byte
GA-P35C-DS3R mobo. I have a sata hdd and sata dvd drive. I initially ran
the Ultimate Boot CD and it loaded fine.
Now I have been trying to set the correct BIOS settings and it won't even
get as far as booting from the cd. The POST stops in the PCI Devices
Listing immediately after completing 'Network Cntrlr' and halts on ACPI
Controller. I mean, ACPI Controller appears as an item but all the other
fields, except IRQ, are blank. And the keyboard etc. is dead - I can only
reset the computer.
I've tried re-loading optimum and also fail-safe defaults - no joy!
I'd be very, very grateful for any suggestions on how to overcome this! I
can't find any references to ACPI controller in the bios or the mobo
manual.
Thanks!
Pete (depressed!)
