Re: New build - halt on ACPI Controller

Update: OK, I know I've definitely cleared the CMOS ram and reset the bios to default as, after removing the battery AND using a proper jumper I got a screen asking for the defaults next boot and the time settings were reset.

However, the problem is still there - i.e. the boot process halts on ACPI Controller in the PCI Devices Listing.

As previously stated, we can get to the BIOS screens every time, I've loaded and reloaded the optimised or fail-safe settings and I still get the problem. There doesn't seem to be an option in the bios to switch ACPI Controller off.

The odd thing is that I did get it to boot into an Ultimate Windows Boot CD at first. But now of course we don't even get to the option to boot from CD.

Is it possible the mobo has gone south after working for a little while?

I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me as it's looking at the moment like I have a £700 piece of worthless kit on my desk!

In other words, people, I'm begging, OK? ;-((

Thanks,

Pete

I've just finished building my new rig. It's based on a Giga-Byte GA-P35C-DS3R mobo. I have a sata hdd and sata dvd drive. I initially ran the Ultimate Boot CD and it loaded fine.

Now I have been trying to set the correct BIOS settings and it won't even get as far as booting from the cd. The POST stops in the PCI Devices Listing immediately after completing 'Network Cntrlr' and halts on ACPI Controller. I mean, ACPI Controller appears as an item but all the other fields, except IRQ, are blank. And the keyboard etc. is dead - I can only reset the computer.

I've tried re-loading optimum and also fail-safe defaults - no joy!

I'd be very, very grateful for any suggestions on how to overcome this! I can't find any references to ACPI controller in the bios or the mobo manual.

Thanks!

Pete (depressed!)
