Re: Recommendation for CD burning software...

With the Vista you don't need any third-party packet-at-once burning
stuff. Writable UDF is built-in into Vista and up. Dump InCD as a
nightmare :)

Hmm... this is not good news! I am building a new machine and accidentally
have not 1 but 2 Nero 7 OEM installs on order! Looks like I won't be
needing to burn any CDs to get my coasters!

I'm sure the CD burning software alternatives in the other postings in this
thread are great and preferable to Nero 7 - I'll certainly be hoping to use
one of them on the new machine.

However, in Nero 5 I use the Nero InCD 4 to access CDRW discs as drive
letters within XP and it works great. Does anyone know whether the Nero 7
version of InCD is as bad/unreliable as the rest of the software appears to
be? And also, is there a freeware / low cost alternative to InCD? That
runs on Vista?

Thanks!

Just found that my old CD burning software doesn't recognise SATA drives,
and I've just put in a SATA DVD/RW. I thought I'd try Nero 7, the CD came
with the drive.

I tried installing Nero 7, selected custom, noticed that it wanted to take
over handling of just about every media file in my computer, unchecked all
the file associations as I'd rather leave the programs I originally chose
to
run those files and just run Nero when I tell it to.

Reboot. Guess what. Every poxy media file has now been associated with
some
crappy Nero derivative program, ignoring my preferences. And worse, it
tells
me that now to play this file I need to purchase the full version of the
software. Oh no, thats not worse. Worse is it has a crappy splash screen
that loads before it'll play the file.

Hunt around looking for the file associations dialog - find out have to go
back into setup. Uncheck them all again, computer takes a bloody age to
do... nothing. All the associations are still set up to load Nero.

So I just uninstalled it, and I'll restore the file associations as I go -
too many that I don't use were changed. Poxy thing left behind its icons,
so
that'll have to be changed too.

So I want a good CD burning software that will work with my SATA drive.
Preferably one that doesn't try taking over my computer. Would be nice if
it
has the Explorer like interface of Nero 5 that I tried upgrading from.
