Is there a recommended order for mounting the cpu/heatsink (and to a
lesser extent, ram) onto the mobo before, or after, the mobo is mounted
in the case?
I assemble as much as possible before attaching the motherboard to the case
or motherboard tray, to minimise stress to the motherboard. RAM sockets
especially can be quite stiff. If the case has no motherboard tray,
temporarily fitting expansion cards before fitting the motherboard can make
final installation easier. Obviously, testing outside of a case implies
assembling everything else before mounting in the case, and if you do this
it's natural to disassemble as little as possible.
A large CPU cooler like you are planning to use makes life more difficult,
particularly if the case has no motherboard tray: it will be more difficult
(or impossible) to get the motherboard into the case with the cooler
attached, and attaching the cooler once the motherboard is in the case is
likely to be a bit tricker due to the limited space.
