This is where you need to invoke system restore, to a point just before
you installed the cr&pware. Windows (XP at least) SHOULD have made a
snapshot about then .. Actually you should do that before installing
anything, just in case ..
Think I broke system restore a while back, I try to use it and I get a
message saying that it was unable to restore my computer to an earlier
date/time and that no files have been modified.
Hmm, either it is turned off or else it is corrupted. Either way, I'd go into system restore (help, system restore) and turn it off, which should lose all the restore points, then turn it on again. It is too useful a facility to have it broken!
Other causes of problems - lack of disk space, and 'seti' or 'folding at home' type programs running which mean the system never gets idle enough tos et a restore point each day (although it should still set one when you install something dangerous, put in a windows update, or whatever).
