Intelligent USB->PS/2 adapters do exist, but they're relatively
expensive.
I use one of these:

Nice find. Thanks for that.
is there a convention, or better, a written rule, a standard, that when
one says A to B adaptor e.g. USB to Ps2 adaptor, then A refers to the
socket on the computer.
i`ve been saying USb-Ps2 adaptor to mean takes a USB device, so the
socket on the computer would be ps2
from google images, it seems my way may be more popular. i`m not sure.
note- the little ps2-usb adaptors, for ps2 keyboards, they won`t work
typically. You`d need a bulky one. Or, they would work if you used a
usb keyboard converted to ps2, and then put it into a ps2-usb. Because
a USB keyboard with a ps2 adaptor on the end, is like a ps2 keyboard
with USB support built in. So then a little adaptor that just makes the
physical change from ps2 to usb, is enough to make it work. Hence, the
most common little devices are the ones that really work, the ones with
USb female holes in them - for usb devices to plug in. As you see on
google images when typing usb to ps2. suggesting that my way of A to
B, in this case A/USB being the device and B/ps2 being the computer
end. Hope that reads ok, i`m dizzy
