RAID 1 is duplication, and there should be no speed improvement.
Which is why I assumed we were talking RAID 3, or 0+1.
I wouldn't trust 0+1 much, especially on a cheap controller card, I had
to revert to a backup last time I had one of those go tits up.

Lookout Express is notorious for it, as is the POS they replaced it
with in Vista, hey something had to replace AOL for us to poke fun
at :-)
Striping gives some minor speed advantages for people with huge files
(video, for instance), but apart from that I'm pretty unimpressed with
RAID for home users.
Doesn't it also slow down access times?
