Hi All,
Got a Dell Vostro 200 on order with a view to upgrading the graphics
and turning it into a reasonable gaming machine.
However, I've just found that it doesn't have the PCI-E power
connector and you can't fit a cable as all the power connectors are
SATA type. i.e. no Molex power
connectors at all.
1) What's the best PCI-E graphics card that doesn't require additional
power supplying to it?
2) anyone seen a sata -> molex or sata->PCI-E power adaptor?
Argh.
Hi Ric,
Can't you get Dell to fit the card, so they'll put a suitable PSU into
the machine to support it?
If not, check the spec of the PSU it comes with, as medium-high
end graphics cards take a *lot* of power and often kill underpowered
PSUs, even if you manage to find an adaptor cable (ie you may need
to replace the PSU anyway.)
HTH,
