Upgrade advice?
hi all,
i'm in the process of upgrading the hell out of my old motherboard before
it goes titsup for the last time.
this is what i'm working with:
asus k8v mx400 mobo,
1.2gb ram
sempron 1700+
onboard graphics and sound
300gb eide hdd
syncmaster 710n
mandriva spring 2007, running WinXP in a VMWare virtual machine
wireless lan, with 300gb remote fileserver
This is what i'm planning:
CPU upgrade (but don't know Mobo limits - can anyone advise?)
another gb of ram, maxing out the two ram slots
256mb graphics card - maybe one with a ram slot to upgrade to 500mb
finally intending to use this system as a server for two thin clients,
using either vmware or ms rdc, serving mainly media content and (basic)
games.
so guys, any advice, hints, tips?
Can we take the "buy a new motherboard, stop using linux" type comments
as read?
Cheers, folks...
