Hi James,

It's a problem which manifests itself only when using some items of
networking and USB hardware, mostly when the operating system enters
some powersaving state. Your system may not have this issue.

An example - <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811595> or google "allow
the computer to turn off this device to save power"

I do recall an issue i'd seen of systems with USB mice, losing their
mouse after hibernation and maybe standby. That may be the reason, and
is a better solution to having to disabling hibernation - whether they
wanted to or not, which is what many people were doing! I think that
localises that problem.

Though the OP mentioned a trigger as - It works, then he restarted
windows and had the problem. Thus he can't be coming out of
hibernation.

II do suspect the router, but i'd still troubleshoot all the suspects.
Easy suspects to do are computer - , try a different computer, (many
people have a few, a laptop will do!). try a different cable . Even
trying a different router is easy if you have a spare or know somebody
nearby that does. And there's trying a different network card - though
that overlaps a little. But i'd try the different router first. If
everything comes out clean then it must be the combination of one
thing with something else, like that windows comp with router, maybe
the windows installation is corrupt in a way that causes that. I do
suspect the router though, even though i've never seen or heard of
this problem with them.
