I prefer Avast!, but each to his own.
smithfraud variant removal tool (very very common spyware/virus inc winfixer etc)
I assume you mean 'SmitFraud' - ClamWin removes this without a problem, and SS&D and SpywareBlaster ensure it doesn't get back on.
winsockxpfix (very common for spyware or screwed up firewall to mess up the tcp stack)
Built into SS&D
norton removal tool
Ah, yes - a *very* good bit of advice. Norton is a *bugger* to get rid of.
unknown devices ( a programme that scans the pnp device ids and tells you the name and manufacturer of all the devices, whether they are installed or not, invaluable!)
Hmm - got a URL for that? Sounds handy, although Ubuntu has similar capabilities.
autobackup (a good tool for easy backup, rather then chasing all the different parts)
I use the Ubuntu live disk for this.
avg rootkit
Huh?
password recovery toolbox (wonderful useful piece of software gives you a text file of the pop3 settings, isp settings including passwords, can also scan internet explorer for passwords, you would be amazed how many people have no idea of their passwords)
Aye, I use that - forgot to mention it. Also the password reset bootdisk (for NT/2K/XP) is bloody useful.
hijackthis - will save your bacon, but learn how to use it.
Forgot this as well. And 'killbox', although I haven't needed that so much since discovering Unlocker.
xp service pack2
Included in my original list - 'Windows XP SP2 Upgrade CD'.
ie7 and ie6
I try to advise people to move *away* from IE, hence the inclusion of Firefox on my list. Additionally, if they've got an internet connection I'll be telling them to run Windows Update after I'm done which will give them the latest IE version automagically; if they haven't got an internet connection then they don't need IE.
