Strange problem on my own machine, teach me to fiddle around....
Asus a8v deluxe motherboard with athlon64x2, happily tinkering along
on a atix1650 agp graphics card.
I decided i wanted a better card, and a quieter machine, added a
very quiet cpu fan and upgraded graphics to x1950, motherboard
would only boot on a bios reset, as soon as you go into the bios
options, and save, even as setup defaults, no reboot, requiring the
cmos to be cleared.
I have changed and checked using different psu, memory graphics
cards and heatsink, also had it running outside the case with
nothing else connected...
Anyone any ideas?

I've got the same board, X2/4600, 1950XT and 2 gig of Crucial
Ballistix - all working fine. The mobo is on the latest BIOS, does
yours need a BIOS update by any chance?
Cheers

The board had been stable, even switchin back to the old card doesnt
make it any better, maybe it is some kind of bios corruption. It is
odd.... The 'latest' bios, doesnt seem to be very recent, at around
jan 06
Gaz
'Latest' is indeed a relative term.
As you say, the board has been relly stable. The only trouble I've had is
getting the cool&quiet driver to work properly. But that ain't ASUS
fault.

Well it seems the board is buggered. I tried reflashing the bios, the
situation no better...
If i describe what happens (remember this is bare, just the board,
graphics card and one stick of memory):
i) reset cmos
ii) system goes through post as normal, checks the via and promise raid
chipsets, and then comes up with cmos bad checksum, press f1 to setup, f2
to load setup default.
iii) enter bios, make changes, or make no changes, either way, when
exiting, no post, blank monitor screen.
Only way to bring back is to repeat step i), tried replacing motherboard
battery. It seems a shame, as i do really like this motherboard...... It
is suppose to have a three year warranty, but checking asus website, its a
'nothing to do with us gov' attitude and go to the reseller (an
independent, long since fluttered away), so having just bought an agp
graphics card, i need to hunt for a s939 agp board...
